Courage& Chaos

Longues-sur-Mer Battery

Today, Longues-sur-Mer is the only German coastal battery that still retains all of its original guns, preserved exactly where they stood in 1944. Part of Rommel’s formidable “Atlantic Wall,” this battery opened fire on Allied forces on June 6th and was captured the following day, June 7th, by British troops. As we explore the site, you’ll appreciate the scale and power of the German fortifications and gain a deeper understanding of what Allied soldiers faced during the invasion. The scars of battle—still visible across the bunkers and gun emplacements—serve as a striking reminder of the destructive force of World War II weaponry.
