The D-Day Veterans Memory Tour with Dylan was, quite simply, exceptional.
What makes this tour so special isn’t just the places you visit, but the way history is brought to life. This isn’t a scripted, textbook retelling. It’s deeply personal. Dylan shares the voices of the veterans themselves - their memories, their emotions, their stories. Stories he's heard firsthand. Having spent time with many veterans, Dylan retells their experiences with care and authenticity.
One particularly moving moment was hearing about his conversation with John Shay - whose name is honoured at one of our favourite memorials, to hear it from Dylan while standing on Omaha Beach, hearing John’s words in the very place his story unfolded… it’s something that will stay with you.
After more than 20 years living here, Dylan took us to a place we didn’t even know existed. Standing atop a German defensive 'nest' overlooking Omaha Beach, he explained the strategy, the structures, and the significance - bringing it all vividly to life. With historical photos in hand, taken on the very ground beneath our feet, the past suddenly felt incredibly present.
He also shared a deeply personal connection - his own family history. His grandfather was taken as a forced labourer during the war, made to help build the Atlantic Wall. Growing up with those stories shaped Dylan’s understanding of both the history and the value of freedom, and you can feel that perspective in every part of the tour.
We explored the countryside, driving off-road through the Normandie bocage and along Omaha Beach - an experience that felt both adventurous and reflective.
The tour we chose was a two-hour Jeep experience, tailored specifically to our area - but there are options for everyone. Whether your interest lies with the British, Canadian or American sectors, there are half-day, full-day, and even two-day tours available.
"We loved every minute"
Dylan is everything you could hope for in a guide - charming, knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate about this place. He has a rare ability to tell history in a way that feels personal and meaningful. It’s not just a tour; it’s an experience you carry with you.
